In The Ditch X-Series XL Dolly Sets eXtended Life Hub and Bearings

Tow dollies take a lot of abuse, given their low profile, close proximity to the road surface and undesirable position behind the drive axles. Make sure your set is up to the challenge with the built-in durability and longevity of In The Ditch’s X-Series XL dolly set.

Available in two sizes, this professional dolly system features aluminum parts to reduce weight and resist the elements. The frames are available with either a zinc-plated and powder-coated finish, and the carry handle is ergonomically designed to balance the load as the operator moves the dollies into position.

As with any X-Series model, In The Ditch has added a fifth adjustment hole to widen the dolly combination to 85", and the wheels feature a patented cam-lock design with a spring-loaded pin to engage the dollies with the breakover bar. The positive camber ensures a straight pull down the road.

The Standard Duty (SD) tow dolly comes with 4.80 tires and offers a capacity of 3,040 lbs. The Extreme Duty (XD) option includes 5.70 tires and can carry 4,000 lbs. The XL dollies offer low-maintenance operation, as the sealed hub never needs to be greased. Should they wear out over time, the bolt-on spindles are easy to replace. Scroll down to learn more.

In The Ditch X-Series SLX Dolly Sets Speed Lube Spindle

Tow dollies take more abuse than most equipment. They’re low to the ground, constantly exposed to road debris and the elements and always running behind the drive tires. That’s why In The Ditch’s X-Series SLX Tow Dolly Set is built for lasting strength, performance and ease of use.

Available in two sizes, this professional-grade system combines lightweight aluminum components with zinc-plated or powder-coated frames for maximum corrosion resistance. The ergonomic carry handle is balanced for smooth, controlled positioning, and the Speed-Lube hub design makes bearing maintenance effortless with a center grease zerk for quick, even lubrication.

Like every X-Series model, the SLX wheel features a patented cam-lock with a spring-loaded pin for easy engagement with the breakover bar. A positive camber on the axle also ensures straight, stable towing. Choose your preferred model: Standard Duty (SD): 4.80 tires, 3,040-lb capacity or Extreme Duty (XD): 5.70 tires, 4,000-lb capacity.

Tow Dollies: The Smart Choice for Tow Operators & Recovery Professionals

When you're on the move, speed, versatility, and durability matter. Tow dollies deliver all three—packaged as compact, efficient tools engineered to safely relocate front-wheel-drive cars without needing a full trailer. Whether you're operating a wrecker, car carrier, or rollback, a tow dolly minimizes setup time and maximizes job efficiency.

Why Choose a Tow Dolly?
Professionals working demanding shift schedules rely on instant loading, minimal storage footprint, and rugged build quality. Dollies save space in tight lots, reduce fuel consumption compared to full trailers, and deliver unmatched nimbleness for recovery runs. They’re especially essential for operators dealing with frequent auto moves across short distances where a bulky trailer would slow things down.

FAQ: Tow Dollies

What is the typical capacity of a tow dolly?
Most professional models carry between 3,000 and 5,000+ lbs. Always confirm your vehicle's curb weight before towing.

Are these tow dollies suitable for RVs?
No—these models are for front-wheel-drive cars and light trucks only. They are not designed for RV towing.

How do I maintain my tow dolly?
Check axle bearings, tires, straps, and hardware regularly. Use original replacement parts for best performance.

Why choose aluminum vs. zinc-plated options?
Aluminum (e.g., Collins G7) is lighter and corrosion-resistant—great for storage. Zinc-plated steel (e.g., Collins Hi-Speed) offers extreme durability in heavy-use scenarios.
