Chief Financial Officer
Location: New Hampton, Iowa
Zip’s Truck Equipment, Inc.
Zip’s Truck Equipment, Inc. (Zip’s) is a family-owned business in transition, operating at a national scale while remaining deeply rooted in the community we serve. As one of the largest retailers in North America within our industry, we support customers across the country while employing more than 230 people in a close-knit region. Zip’s is not a typical corporate enterprise. We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer who understands how to steward a growing business responsibly, support people and families, and partner closely with ownership to guide the company through its next phase.
The CFO will serve as a key strategic partner to ownership and senior leadership, responsible for building, managing, and evolving the financial systems that support sustainable growth. This role requires both financial expertise and sound judgment, balancing discipline with flexibility, and structure with entrepreneurial thinking.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical capability, a practical mindset, and an appreciation for a family-oriented culture, understanding that financial decisions at Zip’s affect not only the balance sheet but also our employees, customers, and community. Role Overview
The Chief Financial Officer will have a hands-on, day-to-day impact on company operations while maintaining a strategic, long-term perspective. This leader will guide financial planning, capital strategy, banking relationships, risk management, and reporting, ensuring the company is positioned to grow responsibly while navigating change.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO must communicate clearly, earn trust across the organization, and work collaboratively with ownership and department leaders.
Key Objectives
The successful candidate will:
- Take responsibility, directly or through staff, for all cash management, banking relationships, capital planning, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Partner with ownership to guide financial strategy, capital allocation, and long-term planning.
- Coordinate development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, along with ongoing reporting and forecasting.
- Ensure cash flow supports day-to-day operations while maintaining appropriate controls and financial discipline.
- Develop and implement best practices that support a well-controlled yet adaptable and fluid organization, enabling growth without unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local financial requirements and proactively address regulatory changes.
- Develop a deep understanding of current and forecasted inventory levels across all business segments, including trucks, parts, apparel and accessories, and anticipate the capital required to support growth, expanded product offerings, and seasonal demand.
- Partner with leadership to evaluate capital needs associated with potential acquisitions, product line expansions, and strategic investments, particularly within the small product sales segment.
Responsibilities
This leader will:
- Work closely with senior managers to develop budgets, evaluate financial performance, and ensure transparency and accountability across departments.
- Analyze internal operations, revenue opportunities, and economic trends to identify areas for improvement, cost control, and strategic investment.
- Lead risk management efforts, including evaluation of liabilities, insurance coverage, and capital structure.
- Manage relationships with lenders, auditors, legal counsel, and other external financial partners.
- Oversee financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance with all applicable governmental and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare clear, actionable financial reporting for ownership, senior leadership, and the broader organization as appropriate.
- Lead and develop the administration team, ensuring systems, processes, and tools support accuracy, efficiency, and growth.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven executive-level financial leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and tax planning.
- Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to earn trust at all levels of an organization.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial matters clearly and practically.
- Experience managing growth, change, and evolving capital needs in a dynamic business environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent experience.
- CPA, CMA, or similar professional certification.
- Experience working with banks, investors, or other capital providers.
- Background in privately held, family-owned, or entrepreneurially driven organizations.
- Ability to build strong relationships within the finance team and across the executive leadership group.
Why Zip’s
This role is ideal for a CFO who values impact over formality, understands the responsibility that comes with employing hundreds of people, and wants to help guide a growing family business without losing the culture that made it successful.
