AW Direct Electric Over Air Park Brake Release

Both Volvo and Freightliner heavy-duty trucks utilize an electronic-over-air (EOA) parking brake system. Instead of mechanical, direct-control pneumatic knobs, these trucks feature electronic dashboard switches (or paddles) that send signals to a computer, which then actuates the air valves to release or set the spring brakes.

Freightliner uses the Bendix® Intellipark® Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) System. Volvo uses next-generation Electronic Parking Brakes (EPB), prominently featured as a standard safety suite on models like the new VNL and VNR. When a driver pulls or pushes the switch on the dash, you are making a request to the electronic control module.

The computer verifies safety parameters and then sends an electrical signal to a solenoid/valve block to dump or supply air to the pneumatic brake chambers. This new air connector assembly from AW Direct releases the EOA parking brake system for short-term towing purposes.
