These circuit breakers double as a master disconnect as well. In the event of a "short circuit" the circuit breaker will "trip" to the off position. Unlike an automatic reset, the manual version stays open until it is manually reset. By pushing the reset button you can also disconnect the entire system. This is extremely helpful when servicing the electrical system.
