Ways to use towing straps header
Among Towing Straps & Chains, you have a choice when it comes to tying down a vehicle to your car carrier deck. Here are three preferred methods and basic recommended steps you can follow with Zipʼs Towing Straps.
Zip's 8 Point Tie-Down Kit
Zipʼs 8-Point Tie-Down Assembly features two points of contact with your car carrier deck for each wheel. Available in two lengths, the winch strap is wrapped around the wheel and fed through a dogbone strap on each end before connecting to the chain pockets located on the deck. Both the ratchet hardware and straps include 12" chain tails.
8-Point Step 1
Step 1:
Position vehicle so chain pockets are within reach from both sides of the wheel. Wrap the longer winch strap around the back of the wheel and feed each end through the dogbone strap, keeping the dogbone strap centered over the wheel.
8-Point Step 2
Step 2:
Insert the chain tail from strap and ratchet into nearest pockets.
8-Point Step 3
Step 3:
Feed loose end winch strap through ratchet hardware, take up the excess slack and ratchet securely. Straps should be pulling toward or against each other, but never in the same direction.

Zip's Tips

If you have a longer bed on your car carrier, we recommend using the 18' strap length. Additionally, longer straps are great for larger wheels.

Zip's 4-Point Tie-Down Kit
Zipʼs 4-Point Tie-Down Assembly features winch straps equipped with a Mini J, R & T hook cluster and ratchet hardware with a 10-link chain tail. Avoiding wheels, these accessories allow the operator to hook to the preferred vehicle manufacturer hook point on the chassis, and the 8-foot strap length allows the chain tail to reach the nearest chain pocket.
4-Point Step 1
Step 1: Choose from one of three hook types for the best connection to the preferred manufacturer hook point on the chassis of the towed vehicle.
4-Point Step 2
Step 2: Insert the chain tail from ratchet hardware into nearest chain pocket, take up the excess slack and ratchet securely.

Zip's Tips

Always inspect straps for damage and excessive wear prior to use. Keep ratchet mechanism well lubricated for ease of use and longevity. Periodically check strap tension during long-distance tows as vehicles can shift during transport.

zips-tie-down-w-d-ring
Zipʼs Tie-Down Assembly w/ D-Rings provides a simple method for securing a vehicle to a car carrier bed. The winch strap is slipped through an opening in the wheel and fed back through the attached D-ring. The adjustable chafe guard prevents the strap from rubbing on the metal rim.
Tie-Down w/ D-Rings Step 1
Step 1:
Feed the strap end through an opening in the wheel, adjust the chafe guard so it protects the webbing from the metal rim and run it back through the D-ring to create the choke point.
Tie-Down w/ D-Ring Step 2
Step 2:
Insert the chain tail from the ratchet hardware into nearest chain pocket, take up the excess slack and ratchet securely.
Tie-Down w/ D-Ring Step 3
Step 3:
Attach chain tails inward so the strap tension is pulling toward each other from the front and rear. Fold excess strap into ratchet handle to prevent unraveling during transport.

Zip's Tips

Be sure to select a wheel opening without the valve stem. Also, always insert the strap end without the D-ring through the wheel so you donʼt scratch the customer’s rims with the D-ring.
