MUTCD-Compliant Variable Message Sign.

The Traffic Commander from SafeAll is a truck-mounted variable message sign that effectively meets MUTCD standards. Legible from 1,000 feet, the Traffic Commander displays lights, words and arrows to give passing motorists as much time as possible to react to roadside emergencies, accident scenes and construction zones. Visible from 3,000 feet, the Traffic Commander is designed to save lives by notifying drivers of important lane closures and the presence of road crews, first responders, law enforcement and tow truck operators.

How it Works

Activate Light Bar

In the stowed position, the Traffic Commander serves as a Light Bar with perimeter lighting available in several color combinations. In the upright position, the light patterns continue to bring attention to the words and arrows scrolling across the face of the message board.

Select/Deploy Message or Arrow

Once at the scene, you can scroll through preset messages and arrows to find the correct and clear commands you need for your specific situation. The pre-loaded library saves time and gets traffic moving in the direction you need them to go.

Execute the Call

Along with traffic cones and road flares, the Traffic Commander will help create the safety cushion in which you need to work effectively and efficiently. The more you can focus on the task at hand, the faster the scene will be cleaned up and traffic can resume as normal.

Stow/Clear Sign

Once the roadside situation is resolved, you can clear the messages and retract the sign board from the comfort or your cab, eliminating any additional exposure to nearby traffic.

SafeAll’s message board is comprised of four sealed LED black bricks that can be replaced in the field if damaged to minimize downtime. Contrasted against a black background, words are displayed in four or five amber letters and stand 18” tall to comply with MUTCD standards. The sign is ventilated and resists vibration and fading for both daytime and nighttime visibility and clarity.

Light Bar.

Flashing and rotating patterns help increase visibility of your truck to passing motorists while reducing risk of accidents.

Additional front-facing warning lightheads ensure visibility of oncoming traffic when the board is upright. Choose from several color combinations.

Arrow Stick.

Arrows and chevrons can be selected to scroll across the sign to give motorists clear direction on which way to go. Use this function for approaching lane closures, accident scenes, construction jobs, flood control measures and other traffic-impeding situations.

30-degree
Readability.

In the full, upright position, the Traffic Commander can still be read from a 30-degree angle, accounting for the incline of a car carrier bed or a hillside scenario. The tilt function of the board also accommodates other elevation considerations.

Waterproof
Design.

The Traffic Commander is IP67-rated for waterproof and weatherproof protection. The aluminum frame won’t rust, and each LED brick is ventilated for moisture and heat dissipation. Thus, the display won’t discolor and fog like competitive signs with an outer polyurethane shell.

Messages.
